Poetry
On June 20, 2021, I wrote a poem for my primary student, James Bush, who was turning 11 years of age the next day. He had proudly told me after our class today that tomorrow was his birthday. That evening, I wrote and mailed him the following poem.
James—No Longer Ten
To my good friend James—no longer ten,
What a speedy year it’s been.
Living amongst your closest kin,
Sharing space with sweet siblin’s,
Enjoying Eclectic happy den,
Filled with laughter, fun, and grins,
Under direction of mother hen.
Scripture chase you often win,
Delighted you’re in my little round pen,
With few words the air you rend,
Ready helping hand you lend.
Proud to count you as my friend,
Hope to see you soon again.
Perhaps I’ve over-used this pen,
And feel you’re glad it’s at an end.
A new great year you now begin.
Happy birthday number e-le-VEN.
