Poetry

I wrote this poem for my granddaughter Sibley Slade when she turned 19 years of age on May 7, 2021. I sign letters to my children and grandchildren with a southern phonetic spelling of daddy—thus, diddy and granddaddy.

Advice to Sibley at 19

This is your birthday card,
Authored by this old bard.
The words they are not hard,
Could be from any re-tard.
But three advices are not marred,
Not in the least bit charred.
Every week attend your ward.
Eat healthy, avoid the lard.
Live clean, ignore Mr. Freud.
With love, your granddiddy wiz-zard.
